HM Queen Sonja' Panoramic Hiking Trail

From royal favourite to regional must-hike

Stay at Hotel Ullensvang in Hardanger and experience "Dronningstien" (the Queens Panoramic Trail). The trail has become one of the most popular hikes in Norway, and not without reason. Marked as a favourite by HM Queen Sonja for the fantastic views of the fjord and mountains.

The trail traditionally starts in the village of Kinsarvik (about a 10 minute drive from the hotel) and takes you on a 14,1 km long hike from the green forests in Kinsarvik, and across the mountains back to Lofthus. The hike has a difference in altitude of 1100 metres, and you are rewarded with views of the Folgefonna glacier, the fjord, the forests, orchards, but most importantly, an experience to remember.

This package is perfect for the hiker wanting to secure rest and relaxation before and after the hike, as well as a packaged format to ensure a smooth hike from start to finish.

Key features:

  • 2 night stay including dinner, bed and breakfast
  • Packed lunch for the hike
  • Option to add shuttle bus tickets to the start of the trail

Shuttle to the start of the trail

You can book a shuttle bus ticket outside of a packaged stay. Our partner Shuttlebus Hardanger provides daily transport from Lofthus to the start of the trail in Kinsarvik during the season.

Taking the shuttle is highly recommended as parking is limited at the start of the trail.

Guided hike

Possibly the best way to experience the Queens Trail is to book a guided hike from our partner Trolltunga Active. This is especially recommended for hikes in May and September/October, as the conditions are more challenging due to ice and snow.

The guides also act as local storytellers and are great motivators for the duration of the trip. Additionally, the guides carry safety and first aid-equipment.

Good to know
